Although current legislation does not provide any specification for oral tobacco products, they are regulated under the General Health Law 42-01 and Law 48-00 of 2000 due to a broad definition of tobacco products that includes “any of their derivatives and forms”. Due to the broad definition of tobacco products contained in the law, nicotine pouches could fall under the category. However, this has not been confirmed by the authorities.
This report provides an overview of the current regulatory framework in place for oral tobacco and nicotine pouches in the Dominican Republic, covering all policy areas.
