Heated tobacco consumable was defined for the first time in the Tobacco Law with the introduction of law 97/2019 amending the Tobacco Law and the Fiscal Code in 2019. It is defined as an unburnt tobacco product, intended for use by means of a device for heating tobacco and other compounds, to produce an aerosol for inhalation and which does not involve a combustion process. Thus, heated tobacco consumables are regulated in line with traditional tobacco products and are subject to product, labelling, notification and advertising requirements.
