BAT leads legal challenge to Denmark’s latest tobacco control initiative

A group of tobacco companies, including British American Tobacco (BAT) and its subsidiaries Nicoventures and House of Prince, have sued the Danish government over legislation which came into force in 2021.

The new laws, voted through by the Danish Parliament, the Folketing, in December 2020, are part of the government’s action plan to prevent young people from becoming nicotine-dependent. They include higher age limits, restrictions on flavours and aromas, marketing bans for e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches, and a ban on tobacco products being displayed in stores.
