Clampdown and tax on tobacco products may never reach Spanish parliament

The fate of two laws feared by Spain’s tobacco and vaping industries is uncertain due to a tight political calendar leading up to next year’s elections, and the still unknown outcome of the upcoming debate over the revision of the EU tobacco directives.

The tobacco control law promoted by the Ministry of Health, aimed at reducing tobacco harm by increasing smoke-free and vape-free areas among other measures, is now less likely to come before the Spanish parliament any time soon, having been put on hold by the government.
