Colombia passes first-ever regulatory framework for tobacco alternatives

Colombia’s congress has passed a bill that, once signed by the president, will create nationwide regulation to govern the use, sale and promotion of e-cigarettes and other alternative tobacco products for the first time in the country’s history.

The bill approved on 6th March modifies Colombia’s 2009 law 1335 of 21st July 2009 (Tobacco Act) and updates its text to include regulation that prohibits the sale of e-cigs, vapes and heated tobacco products (HTPs) to under-18s, and conversely legalising their sale to anyone 18 and older.
