EU Parliament fails to agree smoke-free restrictions as diverging views emerge

The European Parliament has failed to reach an agreement over the European Commission’s proposal for a revision of the 2009 Council recommendation on smoke-free environments.

This outcome means the European Parliament will not provide an official opinion on the proposal nor will it position itself in favour of or against the proposal.

The parliamentary debate held on 28th November revealed the diverging views of political parties on whether novel inhalable products should be included in the scope of the proposal.
