Talk of the US Office on Smoking and Health (OSH)’s demise may have been premature. Reports since April indicate that the OSH had its workforce culled as part of personnel and budgetary cuts at its parent organisations, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
However, recent reports say the dismissal of employees at the OSH and several other HHS entities have been held up by various lawsuits. This means the OSH is not dead yet, but president Donald Trump’s administration appears more and more determined to see through its proposed government downsizing plans – no matter what opposition is placed in its path. As such, it is worth reviewing exactly what the nicotine alternative sector would like to see in a future world post-OSH.
