The European Commission has issued a proposal for a revision of EU legislation on packaging and packaging waste, which could have profound long-term consequences for the tobacco alternatives industry.
The proposal aims to update the EU rules by repealing Directive 94/62/EC and amending Regulation (EU) 2019/1020, while giving member states and businesses adequate support to achieve waste reduction targets.
That support would take the form of a harmonised regulatory framework that enables investment, reduces waste and promotes high-quality recycling equally in all EU countries.
