Smoking rates down thanks to lower-risk nicotine products, UK-based study says

Reduced-risk nicotine products are competing with combustibles and lowering smoking rates, rather than encouraging consumers towards them, according to a new international study which also suggests that light-touch regulation of novel products helps to cut smoking prevalence.

The paper concludes that there is no evidence that alternative nicotine products are a gateway into combustible use – one of the main criticisms levelled at the category, especially e-cigarettes.
