A ban on menthol cigarettes and flavoured cigars, which would also apply to heated tobacco products – currently regulated as conventional cigarettes – has stirred up strong passions, with many supporting an end to the sale of menthol cigarettes in the US.
There is support for the menthol ban from unlikely bedfellows – though some say any ban should only be implemented if it comes with legal safer alternative menthol products in order to avoid driving current menthol cigarette users to other combustible products.
