Tobacco companies face €36m fine for restricting competition in Belgium

On 13th April 2022 the Belgian Competition Authority’s decision-making body, the Competition College, imposed fines totalling €36m on four major cigarette manufacturers for practices that restricted competition.

British American Tobacco (BAT) Belgium was fined €5.7m, Établissements L. Lacroix Fils €7m, Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Company Netherlands €7.2m, and Philip Morris (PM) Benelux BVBA €16m.
