UK govt plans tobacco age-of-sale law and ban on sale of nicotine pouches to minors

British prime minister Rishi Sunak has announced plans to ban sales of previously unregulated nicotine pouches to minors and of tobacco products to anyone born on or after 1st January 2009. The bill is yet to be published, and it is still unclear if the generational ban will cover heated tobacco.

The government also plans to ban the sale of disposables to tackle the rise in youth vaping and prevent their use by children. Under the new powers, there would be restrictions on flavours, a requirement for plain packaging, and changes to how alternative products are displayed in shops to make them less appealing to children.
