A group of US Senate Democrats is trying to push the Biden administration to take action on banning menthol-flavoured cigarettes and all flavoured cigars as soon as possible.
The 22 senators say delays of two years to release a rule on the use of menthol in conventional cigarettes and the creation of a rule banning all flavours in cigars has led to significantly worse public health outcomes – particularly among youth and minority communities. The senators also fear existing delays suggest the latest expected deadline of March 2024 may be missed.
