Last week, 12 EU health ministers backed a paper calling on the European Commission to propose new legislation, which could include banning flavoured vapes and limiting nicotine content. The ministers, led by Denmark’s Sophie Løhde, also suggest that social media giants take “greater responsibility” for marketing and sales of vapes on their platforms.
The push by the group of EU countries for a flavour ban and additional regulations aimed at curbing smoking and vaping reflects a broader trend across Europe towards stricter tobacco control policies. These measures particularly target flavoured products, which are often seen as more appealing to younger and non-traditional smokers.
