New junior health minister takes charge of UK policy on tobacco alternatives

The appointment of Maggie Throup as UK under-secretary for public health comes at a potentially critical time for tobacco alternatives in the country, with many hoping she will continue the harm reduction approach of her predecessor.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson told TobaccoIntelligence Throup’s priorities were still being worked through but that smoking “has always been” a crucial issue for the government.
