The Red Wave that wasn’t turns out an electoral letdown for US tobacco industry

Historically, US midterm elections are not good for the political party in power. In keeping with that, experts predicted a Red Wave that would wrest control of both the Senate and the House from the Democrats, giving Republicans ample room to try to govern.

And whatever else that might have meant for US society in general, it might have been welcome news for the tobacco industry, given the Republican Party’s ingrained pro-business stance and the Democrats’ deep distrust of, and antipathy to, tobacco in all its forms.
